Dizziness, balance & vertigo treatment

dizziness balance vertigo treatment for website 1

If you’ve ever experienced dizziness, you’ll know how unsettling it can be. It can interfere with everyday activities and often leaves you feeling frustrated, anxious, and limited in what you can do.

Dizziness can arise from a variety of causes. In some cases, medical assessment, medication, or specialist investigations may be required. However, one of the most common causes of dizziness is highly treatable with physiotherapy.

A frequent condition we see is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). At Therapeutics, our physiotherapists are trained to assess and treat BPPV effectively using a specialised technique known as the Epley manoeuvre.

This treatment involves a sequence of gentle, guided head movements performed by your therapist. It is a quick, safe, and highly effective approach. The movements use gravity to reposition tiny crystals within the inner ear, guiding them back to where they should be. As the crystals move through the ear canals, symptoms of dizziness are gradually relieved.

Many patients experience significant improvement after just one session, although some may require up to three treatments for full resolution.

Important: If you are booked for an Epley manoeuvre, there are a few important aftercare guidelines to follow:
  • Avoid rapid head movements for 24 hours, such as dancing
  • Avoid positions where your head is in extended for 24 hours such as the hairdresser or dentist
  • Sit for 10mins after an appointment to ensure there are no symptoms prior to driving

Please make sure you understand these guidelines when booking an appointment.  Our team will happily explain all you need to know and can discuss during treatment things such as lying position at night and any short-term modifications necessary. If you are apprehensive about driving after the appointment, it would be advisable to make travel arrangements where you don’t have to drive after treatment, however this should not be necessary.
