If you’re dealing with muscle soreness, tightness, or discomfort, you may be wondering whether physiotherapy or sports massage is the right treatment approach for you. While both can be highly effective, they serve different purposes. Sports massage is ideal for addressing muscle tension, knots, and tightness that can develop from intense physical activity, poor posture, or stress. Our skilled massage therapists use deep tissue techniques to release tension, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. However, if you have a specific injury or acute pain, it’s best to start with physiotherapy. Physiotherapists are trained to diagnose the root cause of your issue and develop a targeted rehabilitation plan. At our clinic, our physiotherapists and massage therapists work closely together to ensure you receive the most appropriate and effective treatment for your individual needs. If a physiotherapist determines that massage would be beneficial, or a massage therapist feels physiotherapy is needed, they will discuss this with you openly to create a collaborative and personalised treatment plan.
Absolutely. Our initial appointments are 45minutes and within this session you will get an assessment and treatment and a plan moving forwards.
This varies for everyone depending on the problem. At the initial assessment the physiotherapist will be able to guide you on this.
You need to be in comfortable clothes for your physiotherapy or sports massage. Much of our treatment is ‘hands on’ so the physio will need to see the affected body area, this may require you to remove clothing so ensure you wear appropriate under garments or bring shorts with you. We do have changing rooms so you can change here if you need to. At all times your modesty will be respected.
Please see our pricing section, which outlines the time for each specific treatment, as this varies, this section can be found on our Home page.
Yes all our Physiotherapy team are HCPC registered and have many years of clinical experience between them.
All the costs can be found on the pricing section of our website.
Absolutely – we even have a paediatric specialist physio. Children under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult. We all work in a clinical environment so we cannot have children unsupervised in our reception area – we do apologise
Unfortunately we do not offer home visits as a rule. Ted Le Brocq our neuro-physiotherapist may be able to offer a home visit if patients’ are unable to attend the clinic. This is dependent on your location and his existing patient list, you will be required to pay petrol costs on top of treatment for all home visits. The reception team will be able to guide you on this.
Normally our reception team, who are not medically trained, can advise you who would be best to see within the clinic, if however they are unable to answer your questions then a therapist will call you back when they are free and advise you the best way forward. The clinical team will never make a diagnosis over the phone or offer treatment without assessing you.
No. Our therapists’ do not require a GP referral and are adequately trained to refer you to the appropriate Medical professional if we cannot help. However, your Private Medical Insurer may require you to see your GP prior to authorising your treatment, please check beforehand with your PMI before making your appointment.
No. We only treat private paying clients who are self-funding or covered through their private medical insurers, with a recognised PMI.
We take payment at the end of each treatment session. We accept all major debit/credit cards other than AMEX. We no longer except cheque payments other than in exceptional circumstances.
Absolutely – although the way we have to deal with each of them varies depending on the insurer. If you are with BUPA, AXA or WPA we will invoice then directly for you. If you have a different insurance provider then you will need to pay for your treatment but we will issue you a full receipt that you can use to claim back from your insurance company.
All insurance company treatments will need pre-authorising prior to attending the clinic – if this is not done you will be expected to pay for your treatment and then claim it back.
Any excess you have on your policy will need paying directly to the clinic.
Either call our experienced reception team on 023 8065 3707 or contact us through our website from our Contact form or e-mail directly on info@therapeutics-southampton.co.uk
